The untimely passing of 2009 Monticello graduate Jessica Fingers pictured and written about in "Eternal Light" post has made this a very difficult week as those of us who knew and loved her have tried to reckon with the shock and grief of all-too-soon departure from this world. Having spent years following her career as a cross-country, indoor and outdoor track competitor and having forged a friendship with her beyond high school as she ventured forth to begin her full scholarship sojourn at Columbia University, it is naturally nearly impossible to believe that she is no longer among us..but yet she is..and will continue to be..in the spirit that defined her life..something I sought with all my power of words to find in this piece I have written for her. Spring sports will now take hold as the cold days give way to warm ones and as I marshal my camera and my words to glorify young men and women I will see her there as she was..as she alwyas will be in my mind..forever young.
